Morning basket ideas: Everything I included in my toddlers morning basket from Amazon Canada
Why I decided to make my toddler a morning basket:
As my toddler approaches the age of three, she gets busier and busier every single day. She’s so eager to learn, and she would lover for nothing more than for me to play, read and teach her all day. After my second was born, she struggled with the adjustment and if i’m being honest, so did I. She was used to getting all of my attention and I was used to giving it to her. Meltdowns, and acting out became more frequent, and I struggled with the guilt of not being able to give her the attention that she was used to.
As my son started to get closer to that 6 month mark, things started to fall into place a little bit more and i started to establish a routine. I just couldn’t lose the nagging feeling at the back of my mind that I had started to rely way too much on the TV to be able to get through the day. My son would only nap in my bed so three times a day I was putting the tv on for my daughter so that I could go nurse my son to sleep in my room. I kept telling myself it was just a season and that it wouldn’t last forever, but that quickly became an excuse. I had gotten used to it and it was the convenient option. I knew many moms were able to do it without relying on the tv so much, and i was determined to do it as well. That’s when I created for her a morning basket.
A morning basket, if you don’t know. is a basket full of screen free activities to help keep your toddler entertained in the morning. Having certain toys that they can only play with at certain times helps to keep it exciting and engaging for them. By implementing this is was able to give it to her only when I put my son down for a nap, and this kept it exciting for her.
Every few months I like to give the basket a but of a refresh, new pads, stickers etc… Updating it seasonally is a great addition to your homeschool routine, keeping things interesting and relevant to the time of year. This also helps to keep the kids excited about it and most importantly excited about learning. Below is a listt of my favourite morning basket ideas for you to get some inspiration from!

Starting off I added a few games and puzzles like this cute little Montessori wooden stacking game which is great for practicing fine motor skills and working on concentration! I also added in this number puzzle because we are working on numbers right now. Some more great options are this alphabet one, or this shapes one!

Next I added some arts and crafts supplies like this blank notebook, and this affordable set of 55 pencil crayons
as well as this pencil box and fun set of kids zig zag safety scissors! I also added a few sheets at a time of these awesome bubble stickers, I love these stickers for my toddler because they’re super easy for her to peel off on her own.

Lastly I added a drawing pad for her for something a little different that I thought she would love and help keep her entertained as well as a new book. This little animal book is so cute and it has the most beautiful illustrations!

And that is everything that I added! I will definitely be updating the basket a few times of year based on the seasons. However I feel like this list of items is a great starting point for anyone wanting to try out a morning basket for their toddler! If you have tried out a morning basket I would love to hear in the comments what your favourite morning basket ideas are!
